Culture X AI 2024 -2025: Culture and Future Mode

Background

Hong Kong, a vibrant city that blends its rich cultural heritage with innovative modern influences, offering a dynamic fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. With the emerging power of artificial intelligent technology in design, artists from diverse sectors and worldwide are able to push the boundaries of creative innovations in fluid experiences, combining contemporary and traditional medium, to express the charm of different culture.

About Culture X AI 2024 – 2025: Culture and Future Mode

Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab), jointly established by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Royal College of Art (RCA), the programme comprised a series of 6 key events: Kan Tai Keung X AiDLab X HK Fashion Designers Show, GBA Forum, International Young Talent Mentorship, Culture X AI International Fashion Show, Exhibitions and Pop-up Retail.

 

The programme sets out as a platform to bring together the foremost cultural icon Dr. Kan Tai Keung, Hong Kong fashion designers, international young talents, and AI innovators to further push the boundaries of creativity and technology. The 18-month programme will harness the Hong Kong's 3 key strengths in Culture, Fashion and AI to broaden international exchanges in creative innovation and promote a vibrant creative interdisciplinary eco-system.

Programmes

  • Date: 17 July 2024

    Venue: Victoria and Albert Museum, London

     

    With the theme of Culture, Innovation and Fashion, the show will feature the collaboration between Dr. Kan Tai Keung, Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab) and five Hong Kong designers.

     

    Each designers’ collection will be developed by AiDA, serving as fashion representations of each individual phase across Dr. Kan’s creative career.

    A discussion platform for active sharing and knowledge exchange to address the current and future roles of AI in fashion and culture.

  • Date: October 2024 – March 2025

     

    An international call for young fashion talents will be launched to recruit 10 international talents for womenswear, menswear and genderless fashion. All selected young talents will be mentored in the AiDA system by Prof. Calvin Wong and his team. The young talents will develop new collections using the AiDA system to be presented at the fashion show in Hong Kong.

    Location: Hong Kong Science Park

     

    Encapsulates the diverse theme of AI, Fashion and Design, the exhibits will showcase examples of AI integrated technology for fashion design, production, and retail. It will enable the public to gain knowledge about the multi -faceted approaches to integrate AI into culture, fashion, and design.

    Location: Hong Kong Palace Museum

     

    The fashion show will showcase the collections which are developed with AI-based Interactive Design Assistant for Fashion (AiDA) by 10 international young talents, with 5 fashion designers who presented their collaborations at Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

    The pop-up retail demonstrates the viability of adopting AI technology to design fashion collections for commercial applications.
